Wings of Gold Celebration Rises to Occasion
TEMPE, Ariz.—After an impressive turnout to celebrate women in athletics, the Wings of Gold Celebration raised a total of $52,000 for the Wings of Gold Fund and the newly launched Coach V Fund in one night.
With approximately 250 guests in attendance including donors, coaches, and student-athletes, funds were raised through a silent auction to start the night, private philanthropic donations, and an entertaining live auction to close out the evening. At the end of the night, the Wings of Gold Fun added 30 new donors and the Coach V Fund celebrated 11 inaugural donors.
The surprise of the night was the announcement of the Coach V Fund, named in honor of Arizona State Hall of Fame golf coach Linda Vollstedt. The endowment, spearheaded by longtime Sun Devil Club members Karen Hobbs and Judy Schaeffer, was created to support continuing education for the coaches of women’s sports within Sun Devil Athletics, a cause close to Coach Vollstedt’s heart.
The Wings of Gold Fund acts as an annual fund for Sun Devil Athletics’ 12 women’s programs. The money raised, as part of the celebration and throughout the fiscal year for Wings of Gold, will be evenly distributed among the programs and will be used for recruiting, academic support and other essentials necessary to compete at the highest level.
