Sun Devil Legends Descend Upon Pinetop For White Mountain Steak Fry
PINETOP, Ariz.—The seventh-annual White Mountain Steak Fry and Golf Tournament will be held this weekend, June 20-21, at the Pinetop Country Club in Pinetop, Ariz. The Steak Fry is the signature fundraising event for the Arizona State White Mountain Alumni Chapter and its theme for the year will be “Honoring our ASU Heritage and Tradition”.
Over the past six years, the funds raised from the Steak Fry have provided more than $210,000 in scholarships for local high school students wanting to attend Arizona State and to the Sun Devil Club Legacy Program.
Many Sun Devil head coaches, former athletes, and administrators will attend the event, such as: Pac-12 Football Coach of the Year Todd Graham, former coach Frank Kush, men’s basketball coach Herb Sendek, women’s basketball coach Charlie Turner Thorne, women’s golf coach Melissa Luellen, AD Ray Anderson, Alumni Association president Christine Kajikawa Wilkinson, hall of fame members Mike Haynes, Randall McDaniel, Curley Cup, Ron Prichard, Danny White, and other greats like Rose Bowl quarter back Jeff Van Raaphorst, Joe Caldwell and Rudy Burgess.
The weekend kicks off Friday at the Heritage Night Cocktail Party and concludes on Saturday at the Steak Fry event, which will include interviews with ASU coaches, ASU's College Football Hall of Fame Legends, and a live and silent auction, among other activities.
The White Mountain Alumni Chapter looks to surpass its $100,000 total the group raised from last season. The chapter's board, volunteers and sponsors took the lead for the Sun Devils' successful "Return to Camp T" campaign this past spring/summer and helped to make the return to the famed camp in the Tonto National Forest a reality with a matching donation program.
