Sustaining that team is the other half.
Sun Devil Athletics funds 264 annual scholarships through the Sun Devil Club Annual Fund, but endowing a scholarship is a lasting investment. The principle is never touched and continues to accrue interest, providing renewable student assistance for generations. An endowed scholarship also honors the person for whom the scholarship is named in perpetuity.
Currently a full scholarship costs approximately $30,000. Therefore, it takes $800,000 to endow each scholarship using a spending policy of 3.75%. Excess earnings will be reinvested, allowing the principle to grow at a rate covering future scholarship cost increases. The donor has five to ten years to fund the endowment depending on the scholarship selected.
A scholarship endowment gift can be designated to help provide a scholarship in the sport and position of the donor’s choice. Donors choose how to name their endowment gift. Most donors designate the endowment in their own name or that of their family. Some donors choose to name their endowment as a tribute or as a memorial while others wish to remain anonymous.
PT42 Tillman Endowments
The Sun Devil Club is creating 42 Tillman Endowments to be funded by multiple donors in both small and large donations. A partnership with the Pat Tillman Foundation has been created to benefit both the Tillman Foundation and the Tillman Endowment. Contributions will be split equally between the Pat Tillman Foundation and the Tillman Endowment. Donors may choose to contribute to the Foundation or the Endowment separately. The goal of this partnership is to establish 42 fully endowed scholarships. There will be two of these scholarships awarded to each of Sun Devil Athletics 21 teams. The chosen athletes will wear a special PT42 patch on their uniforms.
Recognition of each endowment includes acknowledgement in Maroon and Gold, on the SunDevilClub.com website and at the specific stadium that the endowment is dedicated.
