Power of Philanthropy on Display at Sun Devil Club’s Annual Scholarship Endowment Dinner
Nearly 100 supporters, student-athletes, coaches and staff spent the evening celebrating Sun Devil Athletics’ community support and philanthropic efforts during the Sun Devil Club’s annual Scholarship Endowment Dinner on April 22 on the Coca-Cola Sun Deck on the north side of Sun Devil Stadium.
More than $4M have been raised toward athletics scholarship endowments since July 1, 2017, including more than $620,000 in fiscal year 2019 through the establishment of 21 new athletics scholarships and increased contributions by 10 individuals to pre-existing endowments.
Overall, there are more than 150 athletics scholarship endowments supporting student-athletes across all 26 sports.
“It is an honor to receive the John and Kathy Harris Endowment as it gives me the opportunity to be part of Sun Devil Softball and all the traditions this program holds,” says Bella Loomis, Sun Devil Softball sophomore infielder. “To be a part of such a supportive Sun Devil Family is truly a blessing and wearing ASU across our chest is something we take pride in and never take for granted.”
Attendees at the Scholarship Endowment Dinner enjoyed a reception and dinner, and heard from a panel of Sun Devil student-athletes. Hockey’s Demetrios Koumontzis, Tennis’ Cali Jankowski and Golf’s Olivia Mehaffey spoke about their collegiate experiences, their dreams and passions outside of their respective sports, and the importance of a dedicated community.
Endowments can be established with a minimum gift or pledge of $25,000, which may be fulfilled over a period of up to five years or through a planned gift. Funds can also be added to an existing endowment with no minimum contribution amount.
