Dorothy Marie Beatty Family Football Scholarship

A Legacy of Determination

The Dorothy Marie Beatty Family Football Scholarship was set up by Sun Devil Club supporter Rory J. Clark. He wanted to set up a scholarship endowment in Dorothy's honor due to the profound impact she had on his life. At age 38, Beatty was raising four children in Chicago on a salary of just $14,000. Determined to give them a better life, she exposed her children to the opera, Broadway plays/musicals and other growth opportunities such as the Adler Planetarium. When her son, Rory, got into the toughest college prep school in Chicago largely as a result of this, she encouraged him to excel.

"She poured determination into me every day of my life with her. It is very much still alive in me today.

Rory's family subsequently honored Dorothy's legacy of determination by endowing the Dorothy Marie Beatty Family Football Scholarship for a student-athlete who was previously a walk-on - young men of talent who didn't receive a scholarship initially and who reflect the dogged determination Rory's mom had to succeed regardless of the obstacles.
