Just 10 years ago, hockey in the desert was a phrase limited to talk of the Arizona Coyotes and NHL Hockey. There was barely a whisper about college hockey outside of the few who followed Arizona State’s elite club program. This past weekend, all of that changed with the opening of Mullett Arena and its first home hockey game which saw the Devils earn a 2-0 win, fitting.
The entire week leading up to the series and the weekend itself were a spectacle. The buzz couldn’t be tamed around everything and yet it still seemed the exceed expectations. You can read more about the weekend below, but it’s important to note that while it’s an undoubted moment to celebrate Sun Devil Hockey and the major accomplishment the milestone equates to for the Athletic Department and University as a whole, none of it would have been possible without remarkable donor support and generosity.
Families like the Mullett family made such a profound impact on not only this project but on the program as a whole, but they weren’t the only ones. This arena and it’s completion truly serves as a great reminder of the power of philanthropy at every level. This is the IMPACT that is possible.
Thank you for making this possible and for helping us provide a top-tier experience to our student-athletes that we can just continue to make better and better.
