Sun Devil Hall of Fame

The 2022 Hall of Fame Luncheon

With what has been dubbed one of the greatest Hall of Fame Classes in Sun Devil History, Friday October 7 was a day full of memories and served as a reminder of what it truly means to be a Sun Devil. With nine total inductees – seven former student-athletes into the Hall of Fame and two former coaches/administrators into the Hall of Distinction – it was an afternoon dedicated to their collective and individual greatness.

As each former student-athlete or coach accepted the honor and gave a few words, there was a few universal themes across their speeches. “Grateful for the opportunity” and “Proud to be a Sun Devil” seemed to come up without fail in each and every speech, almost as though it were coordinated. This speaks to the very essence of Sun Devil Athletics and Arizona State University.

Here we are, years or decades after these individuals displayed their greatness and earned the right to be eventual hall of famers, and yet they speak to being grateful for the chance to compete in the Maroon & Gold. This is because of one simple thing: Sun Devil Nation. The support and encouragement that helped propel these extraordinary people to accomplish what they did would not have been what it was without fans, donors and supporters of their specific programs and the Athletic Department as a whole.

It served as a reminder that regardless of who the coach is, what outside noise might exist, these student-athletes give everything they have each and every day for the honor of donning the Maroon & Gold. A sobering reminder in tough times but even more so encouraging that  there is always a Terrell Suggs or a Briann January waiting for that chance to make their impact.

"The Hall of Fame Luncheon always serves as such a great reminder of why we do what we do," Sun Devil Letterwinners Director Kevin Miniefield said. "As a former student-athlete, I know the impact that our supporters make but to hear it from them in a room full of our generous donors, really means a lot."
