Joey Daccord's Sun Devil Legacy

Welcome to Dac's House

In its brief, albeit eventful history, Sun Devil Hockey has been impacted profoundly by a short list of student-athletes who have created a winning culture and left a lasting legacy on the program. The first name on that list is Joey Daccord.

Daccord signed with ASU ahead of the 2016 season and came to Tempe from North Andover, Mass. after being selected 199th overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators. Once on campus, he took a program looking for an identity in its infancy to the NCAA Tournament and a perennial disrupter on the national stage.

Now a professional hockey player, currently leading the Seattle Kraken’s AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers in the Calder Cup Playoffs, his sights are already set on honoring where he came from.

The idea for “Dac’s House” came about after Daccord lost his grandmother to Pancreatic Cancer. This loss, coupled with his passion for growing the game of hockey in the desert, created an obvious marriage to kick off his philanthropic journey.

“I knew I wanted to do something that would inspire kids in the valley and give back to the community that gave me so much,” Daccord said. “After my mom’s mother passed away from Pancreatic Cancer, it became evident that this was the area I could make a real impact.”

The goal of the philanthropic endeavor is to create meaningful programming that help connect youth and their families to Sun Devil Hockey. This will be done with events such as a suite in ASU's new Multi Purpose Arena that will host 2-3 valley families of kids fighting childhood cancer for Sun Devil Hockey games as well as kids clinics for the underprivileged.

“I want this to become a fixture in the Sun Devil Hockey Experience,” Daccord added. “To impact these kids that are going through so much, even if just for a night, could be just what they need to encourage them to keep fighting.”

A constant positive force during his time playing under Coach Powers, Daccord joins the growing list of former student-athletes giving back and making their impact on Arizona State University and the Sun Devil Community as a whole.
