Q & A with Sr. Associate AD - Vice President, Sun Devil Club, Scott Nelson:

Why did you choose to work at ASU and Sun Devil Athletics? For me it was a chance to join a university, foundation and athletic department at what I determined to be an important inflection point in its history.  The impending public launch of Campaign ASU 2020 and significant role that Sun Devil Athletics would play in the campaign’s success was certainly an important factor as well.  I knew from the outside, having worked at other Pac-12 institutions, how passionate Sun Devil Nation was and it’s been a privilege to partner with my Sun Devil Club colleagues to create meaningful philanthropic opportunities and engagements over the past four years.

What are some of your hobbies or what do you do in your free time? – An ideal weekend consists of a round of golf (maybe two), meat on the Traeger and family pool time.

What is your favorite sitcom? – The Office.  Is there a better boss than Michael Scott?

What is your favorite song? – Hey Girl, O.A.R.

What is your favorite family vacation spot? – We are beach people.  Take us anywhere from Santa Barbara, CA to Mission Beach, CA and we’ll be happy.

What is your favorite thing about working in SDA? – Knowing our work with the Sun Devil Club is making a difference in the lives of student-athletes. We have the opportunity each day to connect with a donor community committed to making a difference at ASU and as a result the state of Arizona.  For that I wake up inspired every day to represent the Pitchfork.

What is your favorite ASU memory? – We’ve had a lot of great memories in my 4 years. Beating Kansas back-to-back years in men’s basketball was great. The Territorial Cup comeback victory in Tucson in 2018 will always be memorable. But, national championships always stand out for me, since that is the goal at the start of the season, so I’d have to say the 2017 NCAA DI Women’s Golf National Championship.

What was the last book you read? – I am trying to get into Podcasts so I have started Against the Rules by Michael Lewis.

What is your favorite ice cream? – Mocha Almond Fudge
