Wings

A Tradition with a 50th Anniversary Spin

The Wings of Gold Celebration hosted by the Sun Devil Club is an annual event which celebrates all our female student-athletes and coaches as we honor their hard work and dedication. The 2022 iteration of this fete will carry further significance as June 23, 2022 marks the 50-year anniversary of Title IX Legislation being passed.

The evening features a reception and dinner where the Heather Farr and Linda Vollstedt Coach of the Year Awards are handed out to respective deserving student-athlete and coach recipients.

The Heather Farr Award was established to recognize the female student-athlete who best combines academics, athletics, sportsmanship and a commitment to the community while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. The award was named in honor of Heather Farr, Sun Devil Women’s Gold legend and the sister of Women’s Golf Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye, who lost a long, courageous fight against breast cancer in 1993.

The Linda Vollstedt Coach of the Year Award is given to the Sun Devil Women’s Coach who most exhibits the four pillars of the Sun Devil Way, best exemplified by Coach Vollstedt: Integrity, Championship Performance, Graduation and Tradition. Cliff English of Sun Devil Triathlon was the recipient of this award at the last Wings of Gold Celebration in 2020.

“I was absolutely honored and thrilled to receive the Linda Vollstedt Coach of the Year Award,” English said. “Coach V is an inspiration, and I am very proud to share the distinction of being a recipient of this award with Coach Missy and Coach Charli.”

The event will also feature a special Title IX 50th Anniversary presentation and a silent auction that includes some one-of-a-kind Sun Devil prizes, including: prize baskets with team apparel, once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as "honorary coach" for a Volleyball game, autographed items and more.
