Q & A with Associate Director, Annual Fund & Development Communications, Justin Gaither,

Why did you choose to work at ASU and Sun Devil AthleticsFor me, being a Sun Devil is everything. I came to this institution in 2015 from a small city in Georgia over 2,000 miles away. I had never been west of Texas and didn’t know anyone in the Valley, but immediately felt at home. After working in and out of sports for the first couple years following my graduation, I saw an opening with the Sun Devil Club and knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Being in a position to help foster and grow the familial culture that makes this University and its student-athletes so great is extremely humbling.

What are some of your hobbies or what do you do in your free time? In my free time, I am almost always hanging out with friends or family one way or another. Whether it’s going on trips with my girlfriend to see my family, or golfing with some buddies, I love spending quality time with the people I care about. I also see the value in “staycations,” as my girlfriend and I can often be found grabbing take-out for a night in on Friday or Saturday. Sports are a huge part of my life as well, so I love watching and attending as many sporting events as I can.

Who is your family pet? Breed? Name? At the moment, my girlfriend and I are too busy to care for a dog of our own, but that doesn’t mean we don’t get plenty of pup time. Her family dog, Rocco, is a common guest at our place and we see him at least once a week. He’s a 12-year-old yorkie who doesn’t realize he weighs 9 lbs. and often fights above his weight class.

Who is your hero? I would say my parents are my heroes. They sacrificed so much for my sister and me growing up to give us the best life possible and I credit them 100% for being where I am today.

What is your favorite thing about working in SDA? Quite simply, being able to help expand the Sun Devil Family and showing people how great it is to be a Sun Devil.

What is your favorite ASU memory? The one that immediately pops into my head is Men’s Ice Hockey’s final game of the historic 2018-19 season. We took an early commanding lead against American International, but then allowed them to tie it up late before winning in overtime. It ended up being the final win of the season, and on senior night no less, just an electric atmosphere and fond, fond memories.
